The Malawi Conference of Catholic Bishops (MCCB) has appointed Rev. Fr. Dr. Raphael Mkuzi as the new Deputy Vice Chancellor of the Catholic University of Malawi (CUNIMA). The appointment, communicated to members of staff and students through a circular signed by the University’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Francis Moto, took effect on 3 September 2026. Rev. Fr. Dr. Mkuzi holds a PhD in Economic Justice from the Graduate Theological Union, University of California, Berkeley, USA, and a Master’s degree in Theology and Religious Studies from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium. Before his appointment to CUNIMA, Rev. Fr. Dr. Mkuzi served as Parish Priest of St. Louis, Monkey Bay Parish, and as Dean of the Nankhwali Deanery in the Diocese of Mangochi. In his new role, Rev. Fr. Dr. Mkuzi joins the University’s senior leadership team as CUNIMA continues to expand its academic programmes and strengthen its mission of providing quality and holistic higher education. The Catholic University of Malawi is a growing institution of higher learning accredited by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) to offer degree, diploma and certificate programmes. The University was established by the MCCB, formerly known as the Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM).
